Climate
The climate in Taiwan is subtropical. Temperature can differ greatly between the northern, central and southern regions. December in Taiwan is a cool season, with average low and high temperature from 62.6 to 66.2 degrees Fahrenheit, or 17 to 19 Celsius. Delegates are recommended to bring lightweight coat with them.
Electric Supply
The power supply for electricity is AC 110 Volts/60 Hz. Power outlets only accept flat two-parallel pin plugs, type A. Please bring your own electrical outlet adapter to adjust the AC plug on your equipment to the above-mentioned AC power supply. Participants from areas with different currents should bring a transformer to operate the electrical appliances.
Currency
The exchange rate is around US$ 1 to NT$ 32.82, or around EURO 1 to NT$ 48.22. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at the airport upon arrival, or at government-authorized banks, tourist hotels, and large department stores.
Credit Card
Most Credit cards are widely accepted throughout the island. ATM machines are wide spread.
Language
Mandarin is the official language. The most commonly used foreign language is English. Taxi drivers, however, generally speak only Mandarin and Taiwanese.
Tipping / Taxes
Tipping is optional. It is usual, however, to tip for restaurant service and hotel porters. A 5% value-added tax is added to room rates and meals.
Time Zone
The time here is eight hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. There is no daylight-savings scheme, so this time difference remains constant year-round.
